2025SP WS 297V
This appendix contains materials from WS 297V: Feminist Disability Justice, the course I created and developed during my probationary period, now one of four required Women's and Gender Studies major electives for combined degree candidates. WS 297V first ran as a three-hour class in Spring 2025 and will run again in Spring 2026. It explores antiracist, feminist, queer, and trans frameworks undergirding disability justice, recuperating disability from its politicized, neoliberal, individuating contexts and re-presenting it as a complex medical, social, and cultural construct that is contingent and communal.
I have attached my syllabus, calendar, assignment descriptions, and assessment procedures for WS 297V. I have also included screenshots of the Discord class server to highlight the following features of the course: the use of pseudonyms to reduce student anxieties around participation; the robust text-based participation and organic student interactions that transpired during class; and the use of emoji reactions (by myself and by students) as a low-stakes form of engagement and peer and instructor evaluation. These materials also demonstrate how I transfer principles of accessibility and a repairing composition pedagogy to courses outside of the English, Writing, and Cultural Studies Department.
